Planning, with precision
CLARITY IS PART OF THE CALCULATION

Your risk, explained.

Every number in Trade Risk Toolkit follows the same shared decimal calculation engine. Exact entry and exit prices are the starting point. You never need to measure pips yourself.

Start with the trade you actually want to take.

  1. Select your instrument and Buy or Sell.
  2. Enter account equity, currency and a percentage or fixed cash risk.
  3. Enter the exact entry and stop loss prices. Add take profit if you have one.
  4. Review size, planned loss, net reward and the assumptions before using the plan.

The filled starting values are an editable example, not a live price feed, trading recommendation or verified broker specification.

How position size is calculated

Price loss per lot = |entry − stop| ÷ tick size × tick value × quote-to-account rate
Variable cost per lot = spread + slippage in account currency + round-trip commission
Lots = floor((risk budget − fixed fee) ÷ (price loss per lot + variable costs), volume step)

The broker maximum caps the result. If the rounded size is below the broker minimum, no feasible trade is shown. A 0.01 lot step means 0.549 lots becomes 0.54 lots. Planned risk uses that rounded size, so it can be below the selected budget.

For Forex, tick value per lot must equal contract size × tick size in quote currency. The default 100,000-unit contract and 0.01/100/0.01 minimum, maximum and step are editable assumptions. Tick prices must align to the configured tick grid. No universal metal or CFD specifications are supplied.

Forex conventionPip sizeExample
Non-JPY quote pairs0.0001EURUSD: 1.08500 → 1.08000 = 50 pips
JPY quote pairs0.01USDJPY: 150.000 → 149.500 = 50 pips

The pip convention follows OANDA’s explanation of pips. Monetary pip value depends on contract size and currency conversion. It is never assumed to be $10 for every symbol.

Currency conversion and freshness

When quote and account currency match, conversion is 1:1. Otherwise the app fetches the specific quote-to-account rate from the ECB provider through Frankfurter. The rate is daily reference data, not a real-time or executable quote. The calculator shows source, observation date, observation age and the UTC fetch timestamp.

Observations older than 96 hours, future observations, responses fetched over an hour ago, unavailable pairs and malformed responses pause sizing. The 96-hour observation window accommodates weekends and some holidays; inspect the age yourself. No cached or invented fallback rate is used. Future conversion changes can alter realized loss and reward.

Costs, without counting spread twice

Executable prices are the actual ask/bid prices you expect to enter and close at. Their difference already includes spread, so the spread field is ignored. Mid-market prices require one full round-trip spread: half on the adverse side of entry, half on the adverse side of the exit.

Slippage is one additional adverse exit-price buffer, used at both the planned stop and target. Round-trip commission is entered per lot, in account currency. The fixed round-trip fee is also in account currency. Funding, swap, tax, per-ticket minimum fees, variable spread and nonlinear tiered commissions are not modeled. Input costs are zero by default and visibly labeled.

Net reward deducts the same modeled round-trip costs as planned loss. R:R = net planned reward ÷ planned monetary loss. Fees can make a profitable-looking target unprofitable. Leverage affects the indicative FX margin estimate, not stop distance or monetary loss at the stop. Broker-specific margin rules are outside this estimate.

Build a repeatable risk routine.

  • Choose a risk limit before selecting a position size.
  • Place the stop according to your own trade plan; do not move it to justify a larger size.
  • Verify broker contract size, tick value, price precision and volume limits.
  • Review combined planned exposure, including correlated instruments, yourself.
  • Record the decision and review actual results separately from the plan.

Market gaps, changing conversion rates and unexpected execution conditions can exceed your planned risk. This product is a planning tool and provides no investment advice. It does not connect to brokers or execute orders.

What advanced planning covers

Registered modules store user-owned accounts, preferences, setups and manual journal records. Saved plans are snapshots and do not represent open orders. Portfolio totals sum only the selected currency; they do not imply correlation analysis or synchronized exposure.

Partial targets must allocate 100% and every partial must meet the configured lot minimum and step. The residual volume goes to the final target. Costs are allocated proportionally once. The scenario simulator models repeated percentage losses. Drawdown planning supports manual daily references and static or uncapped trailing total floors, with initial-capital percentage allowances. No firm rules are fetched or certified; specialized rules must be implemented before relying on them.
